Dorset Buttons with Charles Gandy

Come join Charles Gandy for an Introduction to DORSET AND HEIRLOOM BUTTONS.
Dating back as far as 1622 and popular up until around 1850, these hand-made buttons are
making a come back. You can use them to finish that special sweater or maybe as a shawl pin, a broach, some earrings or whatever other creative ideas you might find. We will start with the “Cartwheel” button…and, time permitting, explore other options. By the end of the day, hopefully you will be prepared to launch into a whole new journey of making fun and creative BUTTONS. Bring keen eyes, tapestry needles, and scissors…we’ll have the rest!

This workshop is FREE with the purchase of Charles' book The Embelished Sock, or a $10 materials fee without a book purchase!

Skill Saturday: Reading a Chart

Skill Saturday is a new series of hour long workshops designed to introduce you to fresh topics in knitting and crochet, or help develop your skills with useful tips and tricks.

On April 28th our topic is reading a knitting chart. While a knitting chart can be your pest friend when the time comes to knit a complicated pattern, the grids and symbols can be challenging if you've never worked with them before. In this one hour workshop we'll learn to compare a chart to the knitted fabric it produces, and familiarize ourselves with the most common symbols used in patterns today.

Participants should bring a smooth, light colored yarn and appropriate needles to practice some knitting in class.
