Color Theory for Fiber Crafts: Week 1

Are you ready to take your colorwork to the next level? Have you heard color terms like 'tone', 'saturation', and 'contrast', but don't know quite what to make of them? Do certain color combinations speak to you or turn you off, but you're not sure why? This two-week course is designed to give you the concepts and vocabulary you need to make informed, artistic decisions about which yarns to use in your projects.

Topics covered include:

The color wheel and theories of color.

Identifying tone and contrast.

Optical mixing.

Visual dominance.

Variegated yarns and their uses.

The class fee includes instruction, hand outs, a color wheel, and a greyscale tone matcher.

Students should bring a few stash yarns in DK to Worsted (3-4) weight in various colors and styles and appropriately sized needles to experiment with in class. Extra yarn to share and trade with your classmates is always welcome.

Class Fee: $30
